Definition of Information Science.

Very Simply, Information Science is a study of recorded knowledge and its transfer in the wider sense. The study of the use of information, its sources and development; usually taken to refer to the role of scientific, industrial and specialized libraries and information units in the handling and dissemination of information.

C.K Sharma “It is an extension of library science and expansion of reference service.”
V.Slemata “Information science is an Interdisciplinary field of study of the nature, property’s control and use of information.”
Robert J Taylor “Information Science as “the Study and technology of processing Information for optimum accessibility as use.”

American Society for information science (ASIS) in 1975 defined Information Science as “Information science concerned with the generation, Collection, Organization, Transfer and use of information with particular impresses on the application of modern technology in this areas.”
